yeah i posted in the tunze RC forum...Roger said "It could be two things. The shaft is broken- it should not come out, I have seen a couple older 6045s where the shaft snapped. A bit is left in the bottom of the pump and the rest is free. It could also be that the drive unit has a lot of grit in it. I had one come back that a little sand was in and it caused this problem."

The shaft isn't broken and i did get it running again, but this thing is fussy and i'm not too crazy about it.

yeah I'm with you...one of my 6025 has the common issue loose shaft, noise, back spin and rusty in a month...
