I am thinkin of going to vortechs what exactly does this do to them ?

The driver controls the pump speed and mode (7 different modes). Here is the link that should help you. The new pump @ 420.00 comes with the driver already. If you have more than one pump then the drivers communicate to their respective pump and they communicate with each other.
