help me make a sump for my tank?

I was thinking about putting a sump for my tank. Even thought it is 2.2 gallons i was thinking about putting a 2 gallon sump with a refugium and a skimmer? I need help figuring it out. Anybody ideas?

i am going to use a hang on sump idea..

just get a big HOB filter n remove all the inside stuff. add sand n macros n some mini lights.
also mod the strainer so only little water flow.

I think there was a thread here, but I can't seem to find it, that also discussed how to convert a HOB filter.
