Reefer Ratings: (0) Friends: (0) | Retrofit MH or best option for 120gal
Well I ordered my 120gal low iron glass from glass cages 1 overflow in the back predrilled. I am looking to get a Durso overflow and also a MegaFlow Overflow kit. This board has been very helpful/informative about pumps etc. The lighting is my next step looking into. I have a 55gal with a corallife MH 2X150W unit. I understand my 120g will need 2X250watt MH. I have been looking around and haven't noticed much of a difference in price for a retrofit compared to a fixture. I am looking for the ballasts to be external like I have now, each with own on/off and quick connects. I am looking to keep SPS, LPS in my tank. Any other suggestions to help keep my lighting work and inexpensive. |

You ordered from glass cages? Good luck I hope they remember to build it for you. If I were you I would look at a retro unit of at least 2x250 mh's and 2 T5 actinics for your lighting. Juts because 2 new ballasts and 2 new bulbs for that coralife unit are gonna cost you quite a bit of money.

Noname... here is a suggestion of a place NOT to go, try to stay away from purchasing any Odyssea lighting. They are cheap, unfortunately there are some issues regarding safety that surrounds them. I am sure you will hear true horror stories about them. So, make sure you ask some of the experts in here, that way you will be steered in the right direction.

Well I am about 3 months away until I actually set it up since work will be done in the room it will be housed in. I am exploring all possible options. Thanks for the suggestions. I might start with a Fish only and Live Rock and carry over the small number of corals I have from my 55 tank now and gradually turn it back into a reef. I don't want to rush into it I know it takes time to get a tank the correct parameters so that is my reasoning. Are there any alternatives to MH? |
