I would say it's ok. What kind of pump are you going to be using? You know they make a one piece valve and union. ![]()

Save your money and get an oceans motions. It's worth it. I've never had a problem with my sqwd's, but other people have. B

I second the "ditch the SCWDS", I've never used the oceans motions but I've heard good things. I say plub that sucker into 4 striaght up pipe returns. You can use ball valves to tweak the output so that it's even. (water taking the path of least resistance and all) Also to answer your question: It will work for a short amount of time. Your intake at 2100 GPH (or less with head pressure and back pressure from the SCWD) will suck in enough crud to clog the SCWD so that it gets stuck in one position. Then you'll have to replace it or opt to not use them. Last edited by fritz; 11-06-2006 at 06:56 PM. |

It's not a matter of which pump it's a matter of particulate in the water column. A SCWD works on gears and the "shedding" that rocks do, sand, food, miscelaneous debris in a tank, all of these are things that you do not want to go through your SCWD. Debris like these will jam the gears and it will stop alternating the current. The question on which pump to use is a matter of tank size and how much circulation the animals you keep need. |

Again it depends on what size tank you have and what you keep in it. If this is a 75 gallon SPS tank it will have different needs than if it's a 120 gallon LPS tank.m Well actuall no, those might be the same but you get my point. ![]() How much turnover do you want to have? Are there any other types of circulation? Is there also a sump? |

125 gallon tank, 55 gallon sump/fuge. will probably go with lps/softies. there are 2 returns from sump [mag 12 or 18] in addition to the closed loop. would like to have at least 10 to 20 turnover in the tank. Thanks for any advice Bueller here's the link to my thread: http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/...most-done.html |
