Mets same size return and drain

can u use the same size hole for a return and drain.i have a 38mm and a 45mm diamond bit but i was just thinking the 45mm would be to big for my 35 gal.im setting up for my son for a clown anemone tank.since i introduced him to this site he has been bugging me to set my old 35 up into a salt water setup..

Duke, I would use a smaller return than the drain. Peace of mind knowing the overflow will handle more than the return can put back in there. But, that's just me.

duke, you could drill the holes the same way/size and use bulkheads that have the same outer diameter and different inner diameters - AGA sch 40 bulkheads are being manufactured this way now.
