Yep, that's how a skimmers works, that's what skimmers do...

Okay her's an idea that I have had for a long time try this ...

All the water coming down to the sump from the main tank drain, redirect to the homemade skimmer.. and then the water to the second chamber or whateva...
This would probably need at least 800 more gph to work on a 270 gallon system though... But on a smaller system a mj would probably do and air bubbles of course.. But the natural amount of bubbles from the drain adding to the amount of bubbles added should be all good..

Very innovative, but like Josh said you better hope that "joint" dont go crazy cause if it does you're gonna have a buttload or at least a TANK'S worth of water on the floor
