Help with power supply...

I have an ice probe chiller on my tank; in which the power supply no longer works. This is the second time the power supply has failed on me. This time around customer service seems to be non existent, I've sent numerous emails over the past three months.

The power supply uses a 4-prong type plug to connect to the chiller. I was wondering if I use a same spec size power supply if I can cut the cable on the broken supply and splice it into the new power supply?

I was thinking about using one of these. I've opened up the old pwer supply, cutting the red and black wires will be no problem. Anyone think this will work?

as long as everything power wise is the same i dont see why it wouldn't

The ICE Probe Uses about 4-5 amps. Most of the wall warts only put out milliamps. What is the amperage of the one in the picture?

Agreed it will work fine if the volts and the amps match the powersupply you are replacing. BUT be cautious if the amps are not the safe you can cause a fire. Be cautious. Very cautious. Water salt and mis matched powersupplys can be a disaster in the making.

Past experience has taught me the importance of using properly matched power supplies.

The one in the picture is a 12v 60w 5 amp power supply. I'm going to check radio shack before I order one online.

Side note: the lack of customer support at novatec is inexcusable. I have been trying to get in touch with them (off & on) since last December.

Might sound odd, but call Marine Depot.
I had an issue with my MH fixture a couple of years ago and couldn't get the info I needed. I didn't buy the fixture from them, but they were VERY helpful in getting me the info (and part) I needed from the manufacturer since they sell their products.

Make sure the power brick is rated higher then actual power draw. You don't want to run 5A current from a power supply that is rater only at 5A, You'll overheat the unit which in the best scenario will just fail. Your current draw should not exceed 85% of rated outpout of the P/S
