I think it depends who you ask. Plus there is ALWAYS a risk of aggression between members of the same species. However, you can minimize the incidents of aggression by housing members of the same species, but different genus'. Try to keep only one of each of the genus and your success rate should be increased.

Surgeonfish genus:

Acanthurus
Ctenochaetus
Naso
Paracanthurus
Prionurus
Zebrasoma

I believe more than one tang in an appropriately sized tank, can work. If the tank is big enough, more tangs, IMO, can be ok due to aggression dispersion.

Would adding more tangs makes the tank too crowded which is also bad for the health of the fish?
That's a very loaded question. One tang in a 20 gallon tank is "too crowded" (whatever tang you chose). One tang, a Naso Unicornis in a 75 gallon tank is overcrowded. The unicornis in a 220 gallon tank is approaching acceptable. However, put a yellow tang, a hippo tang, a kole tang, scopas tang and chevron tang in that same 220 and you'd be fine as far as not overcrowding.

Bottom line is, each situation is different and needs to be evaluated based on the facts presented.
