Well now that we got a fish forum, why not kick it off with a thread on arguably one of the most popular Reef-Safe fish - Tangs. The nice thing about tangs is that they are often attractive fish which are generally herbivores, so the only thing in the tank they are likely to bother is nuisance algae. I have a Red-Sea Sailfin Tang in my tank since i started this hobby (now about 3.5 years) and he has always been a model citizen. ![]() I happen to love the Sohal Tang and the Clown Tang and would love to add them to my reef. My only concern is their reputation for being very aggressive. Would having numerous tangs in a tank help to dissipate aggression as it would be spread among all the tangs?

Both Sohal Tang and Clown Tang are mean... I have a 5" Clown I owned for about 4 years in my FOWLR and tried putting a 6" Sohal tang in there this weekend, what a big mistake... WWIII in my tank and the Sohal lost .They should be the last tang introduced into a tank and get them small if you can. Last edited by cali_reef; 07-25-2006 at 01:50 PM. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Over the years, I've practiced adding multiple smaller tangs into a tank all at once. Theory works but eventually after a few years & growth, the aggression will surface unless the tank is relatively large. |

Well albert I have to say that I am very jealous of your tang. He a very nice looking specimen hopfully mine has as much coloration as yours when I get it. And I to belive in your theory.

i picked up a 1" clown tang on sunday from petswarehouse for $30. he's in my QT now but i am guessing that at such a small size he would not be able to cause much harm [yet] to my 6" sailfin or the powder blue i'll be getting from mike.
