A couple of things out there can help. a few LFS sell coral epoxy. This is genraly used for moderate size frgs. If you are trying to secure small branch type sizes I suggest going to the local hardware store and picking up some super glue GEL. I emphisize GEL beacuse It is also sold as just super glue. The GEL is a thicker consistancy and is less likely to spread on the coral tissue. Make sure that the package reads super glue GEL and on the ingredents side look for cyanacrylate.
I agree - I am actually investigating a company to buy 2oz. bottle of really good gel cyanoacrylite (Crazy Glue)
I used to buy it from SPSfrags.com - but since he is out of business, I can't get it anymore - I found the company that manufactures the glue and am finding a distributor - will keep you posted on if I can get some.
Another question I have is do you apply the glue in the tank, or do you take the frag out of the tank first, apply the glue, and then place it in the desired location?
That's the stuff. If you can remove the Frag and piece of L.R.then a dab of glue on the bottom of the SPS frag will do.Hold in place for about a minute or so and then place the rock back in the tank.Otherwise for larger pieces/colonies the two part epoxies are very good.I sell/use Hold fast and Aquastik which albeit are a little more costlier then the H.D. alternative, but they do not flake and fall apart.
Well, yes and no - that is the glue type, but more importantly, the glue is a gel that you can put on the frag, dip the frag in water - the glue hazes over and then you repeat to build it up
I'll see where the glue that I was talking about gets distributed and will let everyone know.
house, Patrick (spsfrags) bought his glue from the same supplier as the link below. I have a few bottles at home and when I get home I'll jot down the specifics.
Maxi-cure is manufactured by BIA Adhesives and might be working with me on buying in bulk for the site - if not, Charlee, the owner of BIA Adhesives said he has a preferred mail order company called Lone Star Models (my guess is that they are in Texas).
If you want to buy one yourself, good luck and let us know how it turns out.
hehehehe you were right - standing corrected - BSIAdhesives = Bob Smith - ever so humbling -
ALL - I ordered 10 bottles of the 1 oz extra thick Maxicure cyanoacrylite glue - it will be $5 a bottle and that would include the shipping. It actually comes to like 4.72 or something like that - throwing in the .38 cents for effort.
I will post another string in general discussion forum for those interested.
