Alright guys, the birthday was good to me and I've got the cash to invest in a nice skimmer. I'm looking to get the ASM G2 for my 65 with 20g sump. Do you guys think this would be sufficient for the tank. I've got 6 small fish in there and its going to be SPS dominated so I want really clean water. It's going to run me about $250 with shipping. You guys think this would be a worth while purchase?

I had the G3 on my 65 gallon reef and it did really well.
the buzz is doing a recir mod on it to really kick it up!
if you have room in the sump go for the G3 few $$ more, I'm a strong believer that you cant overskim!

Frank you made me want the G3 with recirc mod.. Well thats my final decision on the skimmer. What do you guys think? It's going to run me about $280 shipped to me with the hole and uniseal(complete recirc mod). Any final opinions?

i think asmskimmer.com has the lowest prices. true they are hard to find used. i have been hunting for a used g1x for months and finally bit the bullet and ordered a new one. you'll probably at least want the gate valve mod for ease of adjustment. you can order the parts for the gate valve mod elsewhere for half the cost of the kit they sell on the site.

Definately doing the gate valve mod as well. I'm letting them drill the hole for me($20), dont think its worth that much but I'm kinda scared to drill on my own. I think I'll be happy buying new, and it leaves room for me to upgrade :D
20 bux is always worth being sure that something gets done right ,,If you had to pay 40 bux to f00k it up ,,you wouldnt ,,
any normal amount is worth the comp doing the dirty job ,if they break it ,,no prob ,,tey get one more ,,if you break ,and didnt spend the 20 bux ,you will kick yourself in the A$$

on 1 hand i agree with buying new, but, on the other i agree with rich, if u do ur homework, and have some patience, u can get a great skimmer at half the price.maybe even more skimmer than ur needs like frank says, and rich said it many times, u cant have too much skimming.

a new 1 can cause problems 2, break in, and manufactures defects...its to a degree....luck
good luck kris.

Well I bought new and got it running today. I forgot to let it skim in some warm FW first to get off any residue left over. Been running since noon and the foam is starting to build nicely in the neck of the skimmer. Heres some pics of the G3.
