guys advice is great i got another question ive been pondering. ummm since i started the tank about 2 months ago i have never added calcium just made sure there was always perfect salinity no ammonia no nitrites and minimum nitrates. should i add a calcium buffer to the water to help out with the live rock. i got some pieces already growing coraline algae on it but i want massive amounts of that algae on my rock i want it to look really nice any ideas here. i never used the calcium buffer.. and any ideas on whats a good non harmful one to use with all my fishies.... thanks in advance

Hey shaun, what do you have in your 30g tank? im setting up a 30g BB with a big skimmer and some nice lighting...maybe get some new ideas from you all knowlegable one :D
SPS, zoanthids and an anemone with 2 percula clownfish. It's really simple, one powerhead (maxijet 1200) on the bottom of the tank (no starboard) blowing all debris to one section of the tank, then two maxijets on each side higher up. A hang on the back berlin skimmer (rated for a 100 gallon tank, it's a piece of $hit I know but it seems to be doing good on such a small tank) with the intake pump located to catch the debris that the bottom pump is sending its way. That's it!

Sorry to highjack the thread a little, I plan on starting a thread about my new tank soon, :D , once it's a little more mature than 2 weeks.

Your tank looks good, it is a great start! It looks like your ready to start putting some corals in there. Go slow, if I could give any advice.

Ca is a good additive to put into your tank for coraline algae growth. I use Bi ionic for my 30 gallon, the alk part of the two part additive will also help to keep your tank stable.

its ok solbby. i always like when people help each other out. thanks for the info about the ca and alk. i really want to see lots of coraline algae growing. it makes the rock so much nicer. i already have maybe 20-30% of the rock already has that algae growing so its getting there and hopefully when i go and buy the bi ionic tom. it will be growing more rapidly within the weeks to come.

im going to be starting a new thread soon with my 75 gallon tank cant wait for that its almost ready just need more live rock and a clean up crew to start. then im going to move these guys down into the bigger tank. then i want to get 2 nice fish for this 30 once its empty.... thanks again for all the advice guys

You can get a surface skimmer for a Prizm which would help for the moment but like everyone said you need a bigger skimmer to match you bioload.
