welcome to manhattan reefs. :)

that's a nice size tank, what are the dimensions?

as for stocking the tank do you have a preference for coral?
this will determine your equipment needs as well. an sps dominated
tank will need more light and a bigger skimmer as compared to a tank filled with just soft corals.
the cost is hard to say. let's say you want an sps tank, will you be happy growing your colonies from frags, or are you going to buy colonies right away? the cost difference would be huge.

these are some online stores I like, it will help give you an idea for cost.

for rock ocean pro aquatics has an amazing selection.

for coral take a look at http://www.reefermadness.us/, people on this site have been buying frags and colonies from them, they have some great stuff and they just became a sponsor of MR.

I looked at your cabinet plan, my one suggestion is too split the doors in two. the three large doors do not look balanced with the hardware on them.
if you used the touch latch hardware then you could get away with it. also those doors may start to sag on the hinges, they are longer than they are tall.

i am not into hard plumbing therefore am looking into overhang equipments......4 of each ie skimmer/filter. this way if one fails, i still got the rest running. i can call my reef buddy bkr to run the plumbing but am afraid that if it breaks for whatever reason, the whole tank is shut. am i making sense here.
your suggestions are most welcome.
ciao

Do you mean you are going to have all hang on equipment, with a non drilled tank?

I recommend pricing out a fully populated tank with the livestock you expect to keep before continuing. That is an extremely large tank, I just can't imagine anyone trying to do it without a lot of experience (and plumbing ideas, a "hang on" equipment type tank will not work).

nope, not making sense, sorry. :)

plenty of people can help you with the plumbing here.
done right there is little chance of a tank leaking. the water comes out of the tank via an overflow and returns in solid pvc pipes being pushed by a large return pump. chance of leaking just about 0.

the benefits are having a sump large enough to hold the size skimmer you will need to run this tank and what ever other equipment you will add.
without a sump this tank will not work.
don't stress over setting it up, that's the fun part ;)
