So here begins the algae problem

So i've been leaving my light on about 10 hrs a day. In a period of 3 days, I have brown algae all over my rocks. I need to test me water to see if it's fully cycled yet but once it's deemed that my tank is cycled, what kind of snails should I add.

you should increase the flow in the tank, this help with the algae. If the tank has not cycled, i would not put snails in, b/c they will die.

Yea, I went through that period. I still get specks of diatoms on the back glass, but the sand is crytal white! Rocks are coloring up too now.

Brown Algae

I also have brown algae build-up. I have a snail, but he doesn't seem to be doing his job! Is algae harmful to fish? Any suggestions of how to reduce?

i believe the green algae could be harmful if there is enough of it cause it absorbs all the oxygen. from what i hear brown algae isnt bad its just a pain and unsightly.

get yourself a tang, couple of turbo snails, and u shouldnt see that much algae...

Do you have any tang to eat those algae? You can also put Mexican Turbo snail.
These guys will eat algae 24/7.

I do have a yellow tang and a kole tang. I don't really see them eating the algae. The turbo snail does some cleaning but I think I'll get another one.. Thanks for your suggestions!
