There are quite a few factors that affect the growth of coraline algae. Firstly you need exsisting coraline in your tank. Its like having a garden. Without the seeds nothing will grow. There are various forms of coraline. I am sure you have seen all of the varying colors in peoples tanks ranging from purple to orange. You may have noticed also that some seem to grow on certain places where others dont. Its the same in the garden. Some love love the full sun some like partial sun and others just like the shade. Each kind needs to be seeded. Go to various petstores or peoples tanks and ask for scrapings of the coaline algae and dump it in your tank. The flow in there will insure that it gets distributed.

How to grow the stuff? Well like everything in your tank the water conditions need to be good. One thing that will inhibit growth are phosphates. If you are using tapwater for your tank you can basically kiss it all goodbye. Get an RODI!

Coraline algea is basically cells in a calcium shell so you need to add caclium into the tank. Other elements needed are Strontium & molybdenum and magnesium. There are plenty of additives that contain the above such as this one from Kent Marine .

If your other parameters are ideal just keep your alkalinity between 8 ~ 11 dkh and your calcium levels between 400 ~ 450 ppm and you should be well on you way to scraping coraline off your front glass. Good test kits will help you on this. Salifert and LaMotte are awesome kits that will give you accurate results

A good person to ask is Houseoflaughter (JIM) He just started his tank not to long ago and already his glass and rocks are full of coraline. He obviiously is doing something right!!

Hope this helps!
