hi guys i am getting a cpr back pack from a member...i need to find a replacment pump...i really dont like rio for several reason...1. they generate a lot of heat.. 2. they are noisy..i have a 5 gallon tank that this is going on...what pump should i use besides the rio..i am looking at the maxi-jets..they seem to be fine..also looking for a quiet pump...

unfortunately, if you're going to inject some air into the impeller, you're going to create a lot of noise. I was amazed how much noise my backpack made when I added the maxijet 1200.

Maxijet 900 or 1200 work great as a replacement. you don't really need the $5 'venturi adapter' you can just stick the air hose in the input of the mj and it will work the same.

Also, check how much water comes back out of the bakpack when the power goes out. I think on a 5 gallon tank you'll end up overflowing it if you're not careful.

On a 5g tank, you might just be better off staying with the standard Rio 600 RVT pump.
I've had a few Bak Paks and the small Rios have all been fine. I usually have an extra one this way I can pull one off for vinegar soaking without any down time.
