Marina Board Question

ok well for my 40 breeder that i am setting up, i will be going bare bottom...i love the sand look, but latley its just pissing me off, flying everyware, into polps and it just annoying me.

so wwhat is the advantage of having the board there. if i would just do bare glass, would it be allrite.
any advice

marine board is to protect your glass jsut incase of a rock slide...thats always a good plus

Many benefits - as noodle said, one bad rock slide and cracked bottom and leaks everywhere. Glass is also slippery, marina board has some texture and rock is less likely to slide.

Also, you can paint it with epoxy and throw southdown on it - this way you have the texture of sand, without it.

Hey. Remember to get the marinaboard from www.thecuttingboardfactory.com They are cheap , good and fast.

If you want to glue any sand on the marinaboard you should use epoxy resin available at most hardware stores or HD. I did alot of research and it is safe to use. Shoot me a PM if you need to know more details.

i believe he posted some pics of the rock, i was kinda looking for something alot more coraliine encusted. then again, im not really ready for it now either.

I was cheap about it and used a 1/8" thick white acrylic for my tank bottom, Southdown glued really well to acrylic using cheap PVC glue from HD.

Its definitely not easy to stick. You have to scar the surface if you want to glue anything to it. Basically you make it look like a well worn cutting board. Then everything sticks. Once the glue and sand sets the tiny groves are covered and you basically have sandpaper and you dont have to worry about things getting lodged in there.

After that step you can basically create your mounds and dunes using the same principle with more sand and less glue. Messy but it looks just like a sandbed. Following that step you basically add one clear coat and you are set.
