Dont listen to the skimmer Nazis, I had a seaclone for a while and on a small tank its no too bad (certainly better than nothing, which a few people have) Have you tried cleaning the main tube out? I found sometimes that would help

Amen to that, I've had one running on a 12g to cycle.
Worked very nicely for that purpose, took it off line eventually & decided to go skimmerless.

I'll admit rich, that your skimmer is pulling out a lot of crud. But you have a fairly large system that requires a large skimmer. Can you justify the cost of a skimmer like that if you have a 12 gal undrilled tank with a few softies and a damsel in it?
I dont think the seaclone sucks it just a skimmer with very limited use ie. small tank low bioload. Also that photo you linked to looks like a big HSA skimmer not a remora.

Aaron, there are 86 posts in that thread. Some include the Remora in action.

I don't think Rich was suggesting putting his monster skimmer on a 12g nano. :)

Yeah I did scrolled through and see those afterwards, but they really werent that impressive. I felt the skimmate on the remora was a bit too light. I know i'm going to get flamed for this, but it was much lighter than the skimmate i used to get with the seaclone. All I'm saying is for small situations with a light bio load a seaclone is an economical option and i'm just offering a bit of support to a reefer who was asking advice only to get hassled by the skimmer bullies on this site. I still say a seaclone is better than nothing on any system

I think Dave's(Spykes) is just skimming wet to get the junk out quicker, hence the lighter skimmate.

the remora didnt fully break in, after a while a week later before i took my remora down to add something else, my remora pulled out so much it lifted the cap off the skimmer and the skimmate was much darker.

aaron, I undestand that having a seaclone is better than nothing but depending on a seaclone to remove organics in a small system isn't a great idea either. In a 12gal nano you're better off depending on large water changes than a weak skimmer to remove waste. I'm not a skimmer bully, I just want the new guys to understand that the skimming you get from a seaclone is very poor. I've had a seaclone and an aqua C remora and the remora skims like 10x the amount of the seaclone. If the cup is raised on the aquaC the foam is drier and darker......but that doesn't determine the quality of the skimmer, the concentration of bubbles does.
Anyhow, do a search on reefcentral. Hundreds of bad experiences with seaclones can't be wrong.
