This may sound like a silly question...but my corals (the stony ones) sometimes release a stringy web like stuff. They're usually gone in a couple of hours, due to flow. The corals are fine, but what the heck is that stuff?
no they are not sweepers, nor tenactle like. just exactly like spider webs, they look sticky. hard to get a pic cuz there's none right now...i'll try the next time.
What color is the stringy web ? what type of corals are you talking about LSP?
If the color is brownish stringy coming out of the center of the coral ,It is just waste that they are letting out.nothing to worry about ,other wise a pic and a bit more info would help
I know exactly what danlou is talking about. I get the same thing from one of my monti caps. It's white in color & resembles a spiders web (very stringy). I get it on my monti if it does not get good flow over a short period of time. Sometimes I get it when lights go out & by morning it's all gone.
Deepwater, yes i get it in my LSP's and it is brownish...so it must be waste then. the only thing that worried me is that when they do this, they're not expanded to the fullest when this happens. But when they're done, they're right back to normal. WERID!
might want to be careful, as this can be a release of zooanthella (or however you spell it) lps usually do this when under stress, or also from time to time. Right before my tank crashed a year ago, all my lps did this and eventually died. if they appear fine however, then should be no problem.
