Jesse and Rich, I got the foam to be more wet, but the bubble column stays the same size no matter what I do. When the skimmer was working yesterday the thick bubbles reached to the bottom, today just half way, what changed? |

Well if you can get it to overflow than just give it time. I was thinking the silencer was on too tight and then it wouldn't matter what you were doing with the c-clamp.My bubbles only go all the way to the bottom when I do a large water change or when I first broke it in. I would just be more concerned about getting the bubbles up the neck more. Jesse |

actually it sounds like a pleasant little stream ![]() I have since been able to dial in the skimmer so I have a solid neck of tiny bubbles that are breaking right at the top of the riser tube. I can't get a good shot of it at night, the bubbles in the neck end up looking like a white mass. I'll have to wait for the morning to get a decent shot. Paul, I'll take a shot at explaining the difference, then you will have to figure out why it's so efficient and tell me. first this skimmer has an inner tube and an outer tube. water and air mix and shoot straight down into the inner tube. there is about a 1/2' gap between the two at the bottom. water exits the tube at the bottom and rises up between the inner tube and outer tube. the foam in the meantime rises up the top of the inner tube and enters the collection cup in a thick and orderly column of the smallest bubbles I've seen yet in a skimmer. by increasing and decreasing the air going through the venturi the level of foam is controlled. if you wanted to skim wet this would be the skimmer to do it with. the level of control over the thickness of foam is incredible. I hope this describes it well enough. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
