Im having a problem with red slime algae and cyno bacteria where i have to clean my glass almost everyother day. Does any know if a ionizer or a ozone generator will help and if they are even worth it? any advice would be great.

Could you please give us more information about your tank? i.e. water volume, phosphate and nitrate readings, pH, age of tank, type of system (SPS, LPS, mixed reef) and fish bioload (amount of feedings per week).

My first diagnosis is to get a good clean up crew (snails and crabs). They will put a good dent in the red slime and cyno. As for the UV sterilizer I am completely against them and consider them a total waste. The objective is to mimic, as best as possible, the reef ecosystem, killing all the plantonic organisms by UV is counter productive towards that goal. The word "Sterilization" attached to any product should put fear in the hearts of all reefkeepers, ;) .

i have a 125 gallon tank, with 4 medium tnags, hippo, yellow, fox, and sailfin, two clowns and 2 black domino damsels. its a fairly old tank as i got it used from someone, but has been in salt water for the past year and a half. my PH is 8.8, and my ammonia is zero, while my nitrate showed the second lowest reading on the color chart. my tank is mostly lps and zenia's with some zoos and star polyps. i feed twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. i have a good amount of snails in there and shrimps, but they dont seem to be able to eat enough or clean it enough. none of the cleaners even puts a dent in the cyno. i usually have to resort to scrubbing.

I would feed less. I feed my tank once every three days, and I have 15 fish in the tank! None of them seem malnutritious or thin.

But what my fish do do, is hunt within the tank. They are eating the inhabitants of the tank. It is really cool to watch. My anthia will wait extremely still by the sand bed and snag any small shrimp passing by!! The damsels do the same.

yes Chemi-Clean is reef safe, I have all kinds of soft corals, LPS and some SPS. It works very well as a # of people I know have used it, including myself, and the result are really good. It gets the Cyano out of the tank in about 2 - 4 days depending on how much you have in your tank.
