My biggest fear in the tank is the powerhead failing. I spent way too much money and time on redundancy to make sure that does not happen. The powerhead being able to be knocked off is not something I can live with. Remains to be seen as far as I am concerned.

One thing i do ,so g-d forbid the PH should fall ,is Tie the cord to something so if it does fall ,it will only swing and not hit and glass ,JMO

Ronen,
I am one of the beta testers:) If you want to check one out, you are welcome to stop by anytime. I've had it a month or so and I coudn't be happier. To answer a few of the questions, it has speed control (30-100%) right out of the box. They are in the final design phase of a very high tech wireless controller that will control up to 10 pumps at once with all the usual bells and whistles and more. Also, and most important to me, they will also be introducing a battery backup that integrates seemlessly with the pump providing 24+hrs. of run time-- the pump senses the power outtage and automatically ramps down to low speed and kicks into battery mode. When the power returns, the pump ramps back up and recharges the battery. The price for these 2 add ons is not yet known and all told will be quite hefty, but high tech water movement and power outage security in one package is very appealing to me consideing the price we pay for everything else in this hobby. The wattage usage is still not public knowledge, but it is very close to 30W depending on the speed you run the pump.

Thx Randy
I should be Ezees on friday ,maybe we can se it then .LMK
Thx for the info.My tanks it s made a bit diff ,Only the middle half the top is open ,so putting a PH in my tank means i have to have cords in my tank :screama:

Now that i looked at it, they look very promising. I can see myself adding one just to sweep across the floor. I will see what the final verdict is once they go into the retail market.

I would imagine that it will be the same thing as with the streams. Although because they are US based, maybe they can be produced quicker. I can wait for supply and demand to equal out, can't wait to see the final bells and wistles. Also, since there will be new competition in the market, hopefully the streams can come down in price a bit or be more readily available. We'll see.

Im not worried about the powerheads falling in the tank dude. Besides the magnets that its mounted on is a monster. what I worry about is the powerhead not turning water. With the vortech the turbine is in the tank, which is good. But the motor is outside. I cant comment on the magnet that holds the to pieces together. I worry that the motor side could get knocked by a cat, kid or a bird like sonny. Cause they could! If Im not in the house for a while and the pumps in the tank are not moving, Im not a happy man. My tank inhabitannts will not be happy either. That is my only concern on the vortechs. The idea is great! The features are great. But it will take quite a bit of convincing b4 I give up the Tunze for a Vortech.

Each comes with advantages and disadvantages. I like being able to swing the flow around. I like the fact that I can sweep accross the tank with the Tunze.

I want to see what are the long term effects of the magnetic clutch. Mind you I said long term so no one can really comment on it. Eventually all clutches slip. what effects will it have on the acryllic and glass?

Dont be talking to me about electrical or flow or price. They are the same in that respect. In termas of being able to hook up 10 pumps - Im totally stoked at the thought of that but what kind of tank will I need to have 10 vortechs. If I am going to mount 8 tunzes or 10 vortechs, I would rather go with a closed loop with a massive pump. Electrical usage will not be a concern once you go with a tank of that size.

As far as being able to control the pumps between 30% and 100% that is a cool feature. The Tunze does 50~100% out of the box.

I can totally understand that people are super excited but several peeps dont even need apply cause their tanks are way to small for the vortech.

Im not knocking the thing, Im just saying wait and see b4 you speculate and get all excited. For now Im stiking to the Tunze.

Jim, I would take you up on that offer but I dont see myself getting this thing in the forseeable future. But I will keep my eye out on RC for the first dude to drop it. You know there is always that dipstick that nmanages to do so.

Now that is a compelling feature!!! Currently I have the Tunzes hooked up to a UPS. The tunzes dont sense a power outage therefore keep going as if nothing was wrong until the UPS power is depleted. Having this kind of backup is worth the couple hundred dollars extra.

Thats understandable Herman. Have you had a chance to see one in person yet? It's true no ones going to hook up 10 pumps to one tank, cause it would end up being without water.

Only thing when you say "I can totally understand that people are super excited but several peeps dont even need apply cause their tanks are way to small for the vortech."
Thats not really a reasonable statement, everyones entitled to their opinion whether or not their tanks are big enough for it or not :).

Hey guys,

I actually had the opportunity to see one of these in action yesterday, at Pratt. The flow is very wide and when mounted on the end of a 210 gallon (I think?) tank it spread flow from front to back and top to bottom pretty evenly. The flow is not targeted, if you are looking to target an area to manage debris, this might not be right but for general flow it seems really good. The dial up/down feature is really cool and is very simple to use.

From what I saw you definitely could pull off the outside piece, but it would take a strong child and I am not sure a cat would be able to do it, the magnets are pretty robust. I am sure that the magnets degrade eventually, not sure how long that would take though.

Just some initial observations after having seen the propeller.

LOL :Starwars: Wassssup ,,,,,

Well as for me excitiment it has not kicking that hard :smash: I only like the fact of not having wires in my tank ,If you came over and saw my tank you would understand. My tank is 4ft long and 18"Deep
Only 2ft of the top is open (in the middle) So the left and right side have perm 1ft glass over them (guess for support) (thats the way i bought it )
Using a vortex will give the opertunity to place the PH on the side of my tank with no wires.

enjoy a ,, on me
