Just because one person can't understand the tread does not mean it should be closed. Lets not have closed minds here. I thought that this fourm was for off-topic conversation. This is off topic conversation and it shoudl be allowed to continue.

Tonyscoots84 just does nto understand what I am trying to say. And I am in now way bashing Tonyscoot84 but if the country were run by people like you then we would have no money or taxes that were so high none of us would be able to afford food.

Tonyscoot84 you made the comment that if people were lost like these hikers then we shoudl go to every expense and do everyhting that we could to save them.... That is exactly what I dissagree with. Again I am not sayign don't save them or don't look for them but I don't think we should increase the national debt to do it. If we put this much effort into every search and every missing person then we would have no money for Social Security, nationa defense or any other governmental program.

Like I have said these people got themselves into a pickle and they need help. We shoudl give them help but there is no need to make this such a telivised even nor is there need to spend all the money in the world to look for them... It is not me being harsh it is me being real.

Because it was being counter productive is the reason I would say the mods closed it. we have had threads like it in the past that got out of control so it was probably closed to keep that from happening as well. If you want to debate it, take it to the RG

lol, we already have no money for Social Security and many governmental programs. The constant media coverage tends to blow things out of proportion. In reality the amount of money spent on the search and rescue of these guys is nothing compared to the *billions* the government has wasted on other things (and not just this current administration). They likely paid their taxes in like everyone else and are entitled to this to some degree.

I agree what a waste of time the story is. I think if you base jump, hike in blizzards or any other dangerous and stupid thing that you dont have to do, i shouldn't have to come looking for you. Same goes for drug addicts who OD after going to rehab (why should taxpayers pay for kidney,liver and whatever transplants for alcoholics and drug addicts??)

You take your chances and let God sort the rest out.

Zahner- I agree but when I flip the channel I see the same thing. Every channel is covering it so it is not escapable. Good point on them paying their taxes- At the same time they put themselves in the situation they are in. We own then a search and rescue but not to this extent... The media had made it into a circus and that is why so much more is being done than normal.

Nycitaliano9 - This is the off topic forum so we do not have to talk about reefing here.

Salesbig- I totally agree with you I think we are adults and should be able to have this discussion in this forum. There is no reason to close it.

Going back to what Zahner said it is true that the government wastes tons of money. Social Security is in ruins and I am scared I will never see it yet I have been paying into it for years... There are a lot of things that are not fair and not right- I agree. At the same time I think it is about time we start fixing things. I am just sharing my feeling that this is one small thing that is wrong wit the way we operate and waste money in this country. The media controls everything and it is just not right nor is it fair. All I ask is that we come up with some rules and stick to them. We don't need to spend tons of money on this rescue, but if we do then we need to make sure that every rescue gets the same type of spending- and if we decide to go that route we will put ourselves in an even deeper and darker financial hole.
