Those are Asphalt Late Models, not Nextel Cup as most people think of NASCAR. I don't think that particular series is NASCAR sanctioned.

Unfortunately they scrapped the plans for a track on SI, too many traffic issues if they went with it (understandable). Has anyone heard any other plans for a local NASCAR track? We need one!!!!!

i dunno. nascar woud bring worse traffic than a new stadium. I'l 15 mins away from the pocono raceway and its bad on race days. Alot of winnebego's with people that have no teeth that don't know how to drive. |

The last thing NY needs is a track for Nextel Cup, Busch and the CTS. The traffic would be unbearable for the week up to the race let alone race weekend. Dover is only a few hrs. away and is and would be much better than any new track that they would build in NY. NASCAR in their infinate wisdom would just build another cookie cutter mile and a half tri-oval. Now if you want to watch a boring race you could go to Pocono too. In the end NASCAR is the WWF of racing. If you want exitement go out to Williams Grove or Hagerstown and watch some 410 Sprints or Dirt Late Models. Yes. I'm a race fan, in case you have'nt guessed.

Due to the fact that the races I prefer to watch are on Sundays, Dover is a pita to get home from. Louden is just too far. Pocono is a pita due to the single lane roads to & from the track once you get off the highway, and it could have been better laid out for all the land they have. Just would prefer to see the Nextel cars more local, NOT here on the Island, the traffic is already hellacious enough!
