No reason they cant power them on a new nuclear powered aegis cruiser. That thing is sweet!!!

They need a huge storage unit to charge and hold the energy just before releasing. I don't know of any portable powerplant that can generate enough.

That doesn't mean that there isn't one, but it DOES mean that the first company to develope one will have a rich customer to sell it to!
