I would say it was a bandwith problem. What is you total memory size, how much memory is on the video card, and what is your connection speed. Also have you checked to see if MR has been "blocked" in the past for images. Also upgrade firefox to it's newest version. Is this happening in IE and firefox? Tell us the specs on the computer as well. Thanks.

Guys I am going to put my wife on now she works in tech and thus has a better knowledge of it then me. Hi all, Thanks for all your suggestions - I'm stumped myself. So this is a system I built: Intel Celeron 2.93 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro NVS video card (I believe it has 64MB memory), 200 GB HD. Our connection is DSL (last time I did a test at Speakeasy our download speed was 779 kbps). We're running Firefox 1.5.0.9, and I have only one extension installed, for del.icio.us. IE is 6.0 as I've been reluctant to move to 7. Anyway, I used IE just to test whether the same thing occurs (it does). That's what really stumps me - if it were related to just one browser then I could do something but it happens on both. Also, my laptop is a slower system with much less memory, also using the same broadband connection (but wirelessly, no less), and it doesn't have this image issue. The things I've tried include (though not necessarily in this order): clearing cache increasing/decreasing cache size allowing images from MR loading images from originating site only (oddly enough, this fixes the problem but then other websites don't work too great!) (I noticed too that the images that DON'T show up are those that are residing on MR. Images on the forum but which are hosted by photobucket or other websites show up fine.) disabling firewall and anti-virus running spyware scans reinstalling Firefox, including from a fresh profile trying linear/hybrid/threaded mode in MR forum display modes replacing the video card can't remember what else! So, in summary, attached images hosted by MR usually don't show up in Firefox OR IE. It's a random thing, though, because sometimes 1 image out of 7 (in a single posting) will show up, and sometimes refreshing the page brings up the other images but most often it doesn't. I feel bad that I can't do anything about but I'm out of ideas. Thanks for your help! |

if refreshing the page brings up the other images but most often it doesn't. then i am to go toward bandwith issue like chief suggested. i am assuming you r running Windows XP pro?

I've seen routers do some very bizzare things. You may want to see if the same thing happens on a different network, or disconnect the router and plug a computer directly into the modem. Verizon utilizes DSL modems with a built in router to authenticate on the network. I've often seen this cause problems if you have an additional (wireless) router in line with that type of modem. This can usually be resolved by putting the modem in bridge mode and setting your router to authenticate. Let me know if this seems possible and I can probably help walk you through the process. P.S. Just to clarify this for everyone. Rendering of most windows and images on a computer is done by the processor and not the graphics card. The primary purpose of a graphics card is translating a signal so that it can be broadcast on a screen. The additional purpose of a graphics card is rendering complex multidimensional images (such as those in 3d games) |

Thats interesting that your quote catches the attachment link. Can you click on the link and let me know if it loads up? Attachment 17329 As for digitalreefers theory, is the router both wireless and wired? I'm wondering if theres actually 2 routers because most wireless routers these days have wired ports as well. Still sounds like something with the account settings, if the wireless laptop works fine using the same router I see it less as a cause. I'd try this, log-out of the board and see if you get the same problem as a guest.

As to the routers, I have an earthlink modem that is NOT a router. I added my own Linksys wireless router. So the desktop is plugged into one of the router's 4 wired ports, while the laptop connects to the router wirelessly. Finally, logging out and then back in as guest doesn't seem to change anything. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
