digitalreefer, I take that back. It looks like the Earthlink modem probably is a router in itself. I got instructions about how to set it to bridge mode, but before I decide to do something like that I ran a little test with my laptop. I plugged the laptop into the same wired port the desktop was in (and disabled the wireless connection). Laptop still shows MR-hosted images in all their glory while the desktop doesn't. Sigh.

Also, thanks for your explanation about what video cards do. Was thinking of buying a new, 128 MB video card, but will save myself the $ for now.

My mistake, I thought you said the laptop was having the same problem. The other thing I like doing to rule out possibilities is verify the Windows system files. You may need your Windows XP disk for this, but you'll go to start -> run and type cmd
This will bring up a console window where you'll type: sfc /scannow
This ensures that all Windows files are accurate and will correct any discrepancies. Since it seems to be happening in both browsers, it may be a problem with the underlying files.

Well, did the scan and it didn't give me any error messages so am assuming that Windows files are ok. It's a stumper, ain't it? Giving up for the night but thanks again!

I have only 1 more possibility, but I'm leaning towards it wont work

On the top, click 'User CP'
on the left, click 'Edit Options'
then scroll down and make sure 'Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)' is checked
