I had heard that people take pigeons from the city parks to Pennsylvania and use them for trap shooting. Today I witnessed it myself. If you see someone throwing nets over pigeons in the parks please report it to the park ranger or park police. They want this practice stopped and will actively pursue any leads you can give them. No matter how you feel about pigeons, they are NYC property, and it is illegal to take them from the parks or harm them. |

actually the city gives permission to get rid of the pigeons to certain companies. I'm sure there are poachers out there but there are also people who are doing this legally. I know of several preserves that have ring shoots upstate where they use pigeons taken from the city. The pigeon meat isn't donated for obvious reasons but the meat from other birds we shoot at these events is donated to soup kitchens in the city along with a portion of the proceeds. Don't know about taking them from the park but most of these companies use crate like traps that are baited. |

leslie s do u relize how toxic pigeon feces is to humans.it cause major respiratory infections and if god forbid u get it in a wound the infection that the person will get is life threating.im a ironworker from the city and i learned the respiratory infection first hand.if we can control the population by removing these birds from overpopulated areas in the city i say the more power to them |

I will never understand what people get out of shooting birds just for the fun of it. Hunting and eating is one thing, but to kill them for target practice? There has to be a better way to control the pigeon population.

alright when there is to many rats in the subway they poison them when there is to many roaches they poison them when to many mice they poison them no one says a word but when a cute pigeon which carry just as many diseases as these other creaturs people get up in arms.also do u know that the pigeon carry a mite on them which creates more asthma sufferers than roaches and dust combined.so if some pigeons fate is target practiice then so be it |

well look if you trap them and set them loose somewhere else they will reproduce and where they are relocated will cause problems elsewhere.pigeons reproduce average of 4 times a year with an average of 3 offspring.and they will reproduce 2 times as much in bigger cities because of abundance of food.so there really no "humane"way of taking care of them |
