to check your firewall in windows:
select "start"(bottom left corner)
control panel-windows firewall
check to "on"

when windows firewall is off, connection to the internet is blocked when just graded from ie6 to ie7.

check if your homepage has changed. if other browsers work but not IE, it may have been hijack by spyware.
if u remember when (DATE) was the last time your IE worked. if u have XP; u can try to restore to that date. this will restore your registy back to that date.
to do a system restore:
start- help and support-Undo changes to your computer with System Restore
then just follow the instructions to "restore...." to an earlier date.
note: all changes made from that date to now will be change.

I found the IE worked best when I un-installed it and swore to myself never to use it again.

The last time it worked was on 10/6. My homepage is MSN.com and it's says that is connecting but nothing happens. I also cannot close the window and I have to do a Ctrl+Delete to close the browser. Is that above a link to do a system restore? Is not working.

System Restore is a feature of Windows XP that allows you to change your system back to a date when it did work. Anything you've done such as documents, songs you've downloaded, bookmarks etc will stay the same. The only thing it changes, to oversimplify things, is the registry. It will change it back to a date that you specify, all was working.

Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore

The program front end is a calendar. You just click a date that everything worked fine and it will restore your computer back to the way it was on that date.

Again, any work you've done, authored, downloaded, changed will remain as it is right now, only your system settings will be changed to the previous dates data.
