I made myself a promise never to return to NWA and I have lived up to it... Had nothing but HORRIBLE experiences with the owner. Enough said.

Cant really say anything good about this store. Prices are a joke, and the staff is not all that nice. I watched as they gave horrable advice to a customer just to make a buck. No redeming quialities at all. Pass this one by.

What are some other good reef stores in Manhattan? I know only of new world aquarium. I agree there is a weird vibe in the store and stuff is very overpriced...i probally have got taken a couple of times here. Certain memebers of the crew seem to be somewhat knowledgeable, yet i feel like i got most of my real information on reef central. My fav. thing is there cat i forget it's name, but how lucky to be a cat in a fishstore...i'm jealous. Now that i have found this site i feel like i can talk to more like minded city people.

Some of their stuff are priced higher, but if you take some time looking around, you may very well find stuff at 'regular' pricing. Keep in mind that they are located in the city and may have to charge a bit more to compensate for their higher real estate cost. The truth is that many stores in brooklyn are also priced just as highly, it would be asking for a lot to expect LFS to compete with online prices.

Overall, I do tend to stop in from time to time on my lunch break or if I would need something in the event of an emergency.
What stores in Brooklyn do you go to? I used to go to Aquatic Creations in Williamsburg, but they appear to have gone under.

Manhattan visits

I've been here a couple of times and most of the reviews are pretty accurate. They have a decent selection of fish and depending on when they get their shipments, corals. The prices are insane for dry goods. It's easily 33% or more than online for many items. The prices for livestock are on the high side but at least you see what you're getting.

My other big peeve about them is if you call to find out what they charge for an item so you can decide whether you want to be ripped off for the convenience, they won't tell you and make you visit to find out. If they charged a bit more than online, they'd get a lot more business. I've figured out, assume it's highway robbery on dry goods and decide whether you really need it immediately.

It bums me out since a store in the city with more reasonable prices would sell a lot more and generate more foot traffice to sell their livestock. I drive out to Fish Town in Queens now.

caveat emptor

The above speaks loudly for itself, it will just irritate me to get into the details.

Can you clarify why you gave Absolutely Fish (NJ) a 7 rating on price and NWA (Manhattan) a 1 rating?

i had to stop by.

yes they have a nice selection of corals .. there fish did not impress me as for most looked sick or sorta drugged up. huge selection on corals. but the prices are wayyyy outta the range. i suggest shopping around. i brought close to 400 bucks in misc stuff and they didnt even cut me the tax or give me a break.. last time ill be there. oh and not to forget there employees lack knowledge in the salt water area. as for he almost sold me a crab that is not reef safe .. he told me they were when they werent ... bad bizness in my book.
