| Stopped by NWA last night. I was impressed with their selection of soft coral and LPS, but not with the prices on these items . These corals must be their cash cow, as alot of the prices didn't even seem reasonable However, I did see 2 rare morphs of Alveopora sp. that I might have to splurge on I don't remember any SPS for sale, but really, who's looking for that anyway? ![]() There was wide range of fish, available at manageable prices. While most of the fish seemed healthy and active, alot of the juvenile tangs (powder blue, powder brown, orange shoulder, clown, etc) seemed afflicted with HLLE. ![]() I pretty much ignore pricing of drygoods in any LFS, but did notice a cornucopia of stock. In an extreme emergency, at least you know NWA will have an item in stock. I was asked if I needed assistance on several occasions. I overheard some "good advice" being given to other shoppers. My biggest gripe with NWA, is parking availability. I was only able to park nearby, because it was after 7pm. | ||||||||||||||||||

| I have been there a couple of times as well and got some urchins from them for $20 each. I have never had a bad experience there, they were curtious and helpful. Some of their stuff are priced higher, but if you take some time looking around, you may very well find stuff at 'regular' pricing. Keep in mind that they are located in the city and may have to charge a bit more to compensate for their higher real estate cost. The truth is that many stores in brooklyn are also priced just as highly, it would be asking for a lot to expect LFS to compete with online prices. Overall, I do tend to stop in from time to time on my lunch break or if I would need something in the event of an emergency. | ||||||||||||||||||

| Worth the higher prices... Although I live in Long Island and have numerous LFS's, I frequent this store quite often...About 75% of the 'stock in my tank has probably come from this store. Their prices are definitely higher than average, although not as high as the store in Carle Place I've been to. The reason I shop here is their customer service and knowledge about what they sell as well as a great selection of fish and corals to choose from. Of all the many 'items' I've purchased here, none have perished. Many stores here in LI are staffed with what appear to be kids taking a summer job - with a basic knowledge that they must have studied off of a fact sheet. If you need tank equipment, supplies, etc. then I would shop on-line for the price savings. If you're looking for great coral and fish then shop here. | ||||||||||||||||||

| best reef store in the city great selection of livestock, and they carry many dry goods for reef tanks. They have always been extremly friendly and helpful when ever I have shopped there. The only negative in my book is the lack of SPS. | ||||||||||||||||||

| Every time I've been to NWA, I've gotten a different vibe. Sometimes, the advice and info flow. Other times, they won't tell you anything specific. Unfortunately, the prices are ALWAYS high. Most of the time I feel like highway robbery has been perpetrated against me. NWA is the land of the $45 Salifert kit (even tho you can get it for $16 online). I would advise against going to this store until you're set up and comfortable in the hobby because they won't give you info unless you're a paying customer. And if you pay for basics, like I did, you'll get ripped off (like a REALLY overpriced aquarium). |
