I am so tempted! But I don't hide behind the anonymity of the Internet as Catfish1(aka owner's daughter) tried to do.COWARD!!! What I had to say to her I said to her face. I will say this for now, after 15 years of shopping in this store, and not just the $50 weekly or biweekly most of the time more. I purchased my first 120gl. 5' from them. And my last purchase of the 155gl.bow front went so sour that I will never set foot in there again. Oh yes the manager said vaguely that he would take care of me the next time I came in. I am not even sure that I could trust that either at this point. To me after what has been done that is not enough. When I make a mistake I own up to it, I don't hide behind lies. Will I tell you guys not to shop there? No, that is your decision to make. But I will recommend that you get everything in writing, and very detailed at that. I normally go by the honor system, (I guess that is do to my age), but they apparently have no HONOR.

I have had some some problems with fishtown, but I will continue going to fishtown because this is the only store I know that has a weekly selection of corals and fish. I go every once and a while to see if I can score some good live stock. No I do not work for fishtown.

Check out Seavisions on Astoria Blvd (Coral Factory on MR). Its a smaller store, so much less livestock, but much healthier, friendly, knowledgable staff, and prices are as good or better. Take care, Eric

Every single fish i buy from there, no matter how long i Drip them, Die. Only corals that i have got there have lived. I too only went there because it was the only one around with a selection besides Northern Aquariums in Flushing. Now that i live in Astoria i go to SeaVision. Funny thing that the Staff that actually knew something at Fishtown, left and went to SeaVision. Plus SeaVision is only 5 blocks away.

I personally think that Fishtown is one of the better places to shop for fish. There coral selection has never been too impressive to me. All fish that I've purchased from them were priced much lower than most places. Second they tend to get fish in bulk so selecting a healthier species seems to have better odds picking out of a bunch. Not the greatest service initially but after a few visits they warm up. I don't believe I've ever had a fish die on me from Fishtown and trust me I've made mistakes. Shouldn't we QT anyway?

My fish dont last more then 2 days in QT when i buy from them. and when they did Fishtown did nothing(not even for a customer that has been going there for a few yrs and spending min. of 200 bucks a visit.) Maybe the amount of dead/sick fish in the tanks should have warned me.

Anyone who says that fishtown has healthy tanks is crazy. I live within two miles and have been goinig there since i was a kid. They always have a wide selection but i try never to buy anything thats been in their tanks for more than a day. Some of their employees a knowledgable and do help, but others will tell you that triggers are reef safe. I've seen it a million times in that place, an inexperienced customer sees a fish they like and asks if its easy or peacful and the salseman just says yes and bags it. Another good one is when customers bring back a fish that has gotten to big or to aggressive and they gladdly take it back, and then simply dump the fish and the water it was brought with directly into the display tanks. To them all of the fish are just stock on the shelves. The best is when you go there sat. or sun. the minute they open its like a graveyard. Workers pulling dead fish out left and right. I also heard from an employee that their fish do not come from the places they say, no hawaii or red sea just budget distributers. But anyway im not saying i never bough a fish there, im just saying be very careful and watch the way they handle your fish.

While Fishtown certainly has it's problems I would not accuse them of lying about where the fish come from. It is very easy to order "transshipped" fish and corals or from some of the bigger wholesalers in California (ERI is the biggest) you can order stuff from Hawaii, Solomon Islands, Philippines, Jakarta, etc all in one order.

Certain stuff comes mainly from Hawaii like Yellow Tangs, Flame Angels, etc. Certain fish can only be purchased from the Red Sea region. But everything can be ordered from the larger wholesale outfits.
