Cool SPS but WAY too pricey. The store needs a make-over.

I agree with Liz, cool store, nice livestock, but too pricey. First place i saw the Salifert test kits and they were all above $25, but other than that not too many complaints. There's also some very helpful people, but others that don't really seem to take the time and help you out.

I went to HOF this weekend. They spent about 15 minutes testing my water ( at no charge- unlike FT which charges), and Alex there was very helpful. They are a bit on the pricey side but the service there was good.

A quality shop for livestock IMO. I want to go out on a limb and say that HOF has the best live rock in the area. To me, paying more for rock that's cured and cherry-picking pieces you fall in love with are worth the $10/lbs they want. Better then the surprise boxes of smelly, broken pieces you might get when you buy them by the box, sight unseen. I was told that that they have ~4000lbs more downstairs in their curing vats. They spent time w/ me, running up and down the stairs with 50lbs each time, until I walked out w/ the right pieces and ~$1000 lighter. Call me a sucker, but I haven't looked back since. Even if you say that they were grimming ear-to-ear when they were waving me goodbye and come again. Their rock is teeming with life, with the exception of colored coralline. But that stuff grows back strong again over time. I get nice compliments from my buddy reefers when commenting my aquascaping and the interesting shapes of the rock.

I want to add that I don't work for these guys or have any other vested interest in HOF.

Their prices are high, but the livestock might be worth the price when you consider that paying their prices are like a hedged-bet: their fish have a 1 week live guarantee. I used it on a Hippo Tang that dropped dead overnight a few days after it went into my tank.

I used to date a girl that grew up in Greenwich. I got tired of being told of the kind of money that moves around as expendible income in the area. It seems that HOF can command the prices they post in the area, similarly to GA, and have little issues rotating stuff. Good selection of books and nicer fish. This shop makes the use of its space to the max. They should move across the street, into a larger space.

My next dumb purchase will be an Ogles Mesoscope when I go back.

Alex & Ryan are very friendly, genuine, knowledgeable and helpful.

Beware of the blue tub full of koi if you don't like water splashing on you or if you freak out easily.
