Already considering buying new rock and ditching the infested ones. It's so frustrating even with the German product I'm using which is effective but it's still lingering,I'm going to do the phosban or Rowaphos overkill to combat it further.

Excellent thread, thanks for posting! Try those cheap little bamboo skewers for twirling out hair algae, works great. Last edited by Bklynreefdude; 03-17-2009 at 01:35 PM.. Reason: additional info

cool tip, never heard of it before. At some point I want to combine all the little tips and tricks into the thread to flesh it out. Just got to get caught up on some work.

I read an article, I think it is from Spring, but don't quote me on that, but it basically says one tactic to killing it off is by depleting it of iron. When you do a water change you restore iron to your tank, and people with dinos usually notice a small increase in growth after a water changes if all other nutrients are low. By making iron a limiting factor, (skipping water changes and allowing the dinos and macro and plants take in iron), you can starve it out. The normal way of removing with nutrient competition is a little bit harder b/c it is so efficient at consuming nutrients. With iron, the addition is something you can control, unlike with nitrate and phos, which come in with food. Will try to find that article for you.
