Store bought water?

So I have my RODI unit but I'm waiting on the booster pump as I'm only getting about 30psi out of my faucet. I need to do a water change, five gallons should do, but I need to get some water. Can I buy water from the grocery store for this one water change? If so do I buy filtered or distilled water?

Distilled water should be fine. A LFS may sell you RODI or premixed saltwater. If you can find Nuti-Seawater locally, it can be used as well.

Remember, you want to replace evaporated water with fresh water, not salt water.

Yes, for a water change. I use ESV salts so it seems the distilled should work out fine.

So the unit doesn't make any RODI water at 30 psi?

It makes some, but it would probably take two days, maybe more, to make 5 gallons. The directions also say it needs a minimum of 35psi to work properly. I knew this would be the case when I purchased the unit. The booster pump is on backorder so I'm patiently awaiting it.

Still be more efficient to buy the store bought water than run an RO/DI at 30 psi. More water would go down the drain than worth the effort. Even an efficient system dumps 4:1 down the drain. :banghead:

Agreed Russ, it was $7.00 for five gallons of water, and took 1/10th of the time and I'm not wasting any of our earths precious water.
