3.5watts/gallon - that lighting sounds sufficient for softies.

I had one in a 29 gallon with the same lighting (130w PC)and in good circulation upper tank position and it thrived for about 2 weeks then it went downhill quick. It just doesn't pay to spend all that money on a yellow fiji and have it die on you in a few weeks.

You know we don't use the watts per gallon rule .

Why don't you try getting a frag and see how it does? Just because on thing survives in a tank, that doesn't mean the next thing will survive.

True, I think I might go with the devils hand first. and if I find a frag of Fiji that will be my test.

Not all soft corals can survive under lower light levels. That's the problem with making generalizations between sps, lps and octocorals(most of what we refer to as softies). A fiji or tonga yellow leather for instance requires more light to thrive than some sps species. These are extremely shallow water corals that get pounded with sunlight in the wild and while not all shallow water species "require" strong light to thrive, sarcophyton elegans is one that does in my experience.
