It's not a cheap investment, but if you're going to be serious about the tank its definately worthwhile.

So are ya using Tap water?

Your going to want to buy an ro/di unit so you don't have to pay almost a dollar a gal. I would also recommend so books as well. They help not only at starting a tank but for reference use as well. Also not sire if you have it but a hydrometer is good but a refractometer is better to measure the salinity. But I would first go out and get books.

the internet is okay, but sifting through all the information on it can be confussing when you are first starting out.

I saw in another thread chief listed some decent sites for info.
Try to get a basic understanding of the biology behind the cycle that is happening in your tank, that will really help be a building block to understanding the rest of the tank biology.

Our site is great for answering questions, but we do not have the collection of articles that some other sites have. It's hard to give you a full reef lesson one answer at a time.

here are a few more specific pages you can look at,

http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php
water parameters

http://www.melevsreef.com/links.html
marc's web site

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/
for me hands down 100% the best reef articles online.
start reading here to see all the fun your in for
