Question

First off...why(I am curious as to why they would make a glass top if it were not usable)

Second...where would I get egg crate(???) or the mesh to cover the tank...and...how would I do that? Wouldn't the mesh fall into the tank?

I second the eggcrate. I haven't tried the mesh but the eggcrate works great. Not sure if it allows more light through than a glass cover but I'm going to assume it does. The main reason people use lids are to keep fish from jumping. If you use a glass lid the temp will rise and rise ! Even if you have a chiller think about the money you save from the 2-3 degree difference from using an eggcrate.

Get egg crate at home depot.

The glass top is ok to use but it holds in the heat and partially blocks the light penetration.

Question

Egg crate lets in more light that a clear piece of glass?

White or black...and it is just called egg crate when I go to the home depot?

Do they cut it to fit my tank? Do I just lay it over the top of my solana?

Yes, many questions.

The current stock pumps are ok but the MJ's use less energy and run cooler.
