Unhappy with what? The color temperature? Tank coverage? If you go retro, you can set up a lighting system exactly how you like it.

Just wondering if there are other options besides the compact! Is there adifferents between 10,000k and 20,000k? And witch one is better for my tank! I've been having problems with red slime and corals not opening! I already been using RO water and have been doing weekly water changes and the slime seems to be going away. Only a little brownish tint is left. But i've heard that the lights sometimes help in the growth of the red slime and giving my invert's a problem. So if i go retro is it better than a compact and what are the up's and down of the retro? Thanks for all the reponse just want to get the take to where it should be, with all my fish and invert's happy and open. Oh and how many hours on the halid's and how many actinic?????? Thanks all!!!

The difference btwn 10k and 20k is that 10k's are a white bulb and will contribute more to growth along with color and 20k's are way bluer and will contribute a lot more to color than growth.

If your having problems with cyano, what do your water parameters look like? Also you say the corals aren't opening, so it could be bad water quality.

As for the upsides of retrofits they stand at you can run any light combo you like, you can place the bulbs wherever you see fit...etc. The only down side i can think of is that you need to have some DIY skill and building a canopy can be a PITA.

Depending on your system you would adjust the photoperiod accordingly.

Assuming you height is 24inches, 250watt SE or DE would be fine. Actinics if you go with 10k's all depends on how blue you want your tank to be.
