Here is a tiny goby, some 4cm long. A very beautiful fish, but I cannot tell the name of it.

Can anybody tell its scientific name or its describer ?

Notice the horizontal striping in the dorsal fin. I would bet money this is a Ptereleotris spp.

Thank you.

The fish is quite shorter than the members of Ptereleotris, and it seems to belong to other genus (of true goby), but I am not sure. Any other reply or hint ?

A Nemateleotris spp.? Hmmmmm.

I found a little better pic of the one I was thinking of. It even has the lanceolate tail. The body does appear a little too short though. Maybe it is a virtue of the camera angle? Can you get any other pictures of the fish Dr. Tanaka, or was this taken in the wild?

Thank you very much, friends and it is similar to the one shown by knowse (but it is not a Nemateleotris).

I have only one pic for the specimen in the aquarium, and yes, it is a result of a camera angle. It came from Indonesia, I hear.

Just back from a month long trip. That fish is Tryssogobius colini, I see them on my 100m+ dives in Micronesia.

Aloha,
Brian

Many thanks, Brian and Matt !

I did not notice its name until now. The eye is bright blue. The last photo may show an adult coloration with green and blue. Mine is only 4cm long and is almost colorless.
