The diatom filters are so old. It's not really a popular item anymore. Why even use it? Do you notice a difference with it at all? Get rid of it all together.

yeah thats what i was thinking i havnt used mine in months anyways i was thinking about re arranging my tank and sometimes that can make things a little messy but i also use to use it to clean the bottom of my frag tank

I have the reg model for 10 years now with no problems, great for cleaning out the sump or polishing water. Perfect for clearing up water after moving a tank or rearranging rock.

well, every week people post how to get rid of ick because its so common, and no one every says "go get a diatom filter to treat it. " people say it can, but its not going to get RID of it...

A magnum hot filter does pretty much the same thing in my opinion.

I have had my vortex diatom for over 1yr and my aunt had the same one for over 5yrs and I have had no problems. It is a little pain in the butt to set-up etc but all in all the tank looks great after moving rock etc around. It clears it right up...

i generally use mine to clean my sump and frag tank. makes things alot easier then other ways. im going to give mine one more chance before it goes in the trash
