Hi guys I am starting to plan out my next tank. The tank will be about 120 ~ 180 gallons and I still have not decided if it will be mixed (LPS and sps) or just all out sps tank. I have decided on Schuran Jetstream 1 for calc. reactor and a the light setup will be 2 or 3 250 WATT MH with Lumenarc reflectors (depending on the legnth of the tank).

Now I am torn on what skimmer to get. I want to get a silent skimmer because the tank will be in the living room of the new apartment. So beckett skimmers are out (this is what I gathered from research - am I wrong?) and also is bubble king due to high cost almost as much as closing cost of the apartment!!!

So I have narrowed it down to 3 company

Deltec, DAS and H&S.

Deltec - set it and forget it skimmer that works like magic on pulling out nice nogs that you never thought was in your tank. but oh so pricey. Also a lot of good info on the units from the boards/fan clubs :) - good service from Doug at deltec a big plus -

H&S - high quailty materials and seems to be equal to deltec in skimmer capacity and ease of use but cheaper
than a deltec. did not really find too much info on it though. I saw one vendor carry it but that about it.

DAS - it was authorized by deltec to reproduce its skimmers in US. Did a lot of research on the unit but I did not really find too much info on it. also seems like very few vendors carry it which might cause issues when stuff breaks

That is all I have so far. Any suggestions or comments from owners of these skimmers would be much appricated.

Thanks!

Tae

( I still have not decided on if it will be a BB or SB - hehe i will not put up a DSB VS. BB post. I promise - don't want to start a war)

I have seen all three brands of skimmers in action. For the money I think the DAS Skimmer is your best bet. Unless you are going with the larger size Deltecs or H&S I wouldn't bother. Here is some more info on H&S:

Here is a local vendor theat sells DAS Skimmers:

Tropaquarium
Located on Route 35 South
Phone: (732) 922-2300
Contact: Ralph or Jason

With my next tank I'm probally going with the Deltec AP702. Its big $$$$ but the quality is good and the customer service is top notch.

For cost effectiveness the DAS hands down.
Once I get the DAS skimmer I'll give an accurate comparsion to the deltec, H+S, BK's etc...

Thanks for the reply guys.. can't wait to see your skimmer online Rich. Steve what is your thoughts on the H&S?

overall i like h&s skimmers. the construction is good, its quite and energy effecient. the only reason i will be selling mine soon is because i think its under rated for my application.
