Swc 230 skimmer help

Ok I had this skimmer set up for about 3 1/2 months so far. It has been working great and skimming like crazy. Tonight I came into my tank room to find my return pump shooting bubbles. I ran to the sump and the return area level was real low which is impossible because I have a ato. I then seen the skimmer cup overflowing like crazy and the water leaked over the edges onto my floor. I shut the skimmer off and cleaned up the mess. I then took the skimmer out and took it all apart and cleaned every part of it. I put the skimmer back into the sump and powered it up again and it seems like the discharge of water out the skimmer is very low. I tried opening the gate valve all the way but it still seems the same. The cup is still overflowing even with the valve fully open and air valve fully open. Any ideas what could be causing this?

what I've noticed with my swc is when i top off my sump it does the same exact thing (OVERFLOWS) so what i do is turn the skimmer all the way down add water let it circulate for bout 20 min's then turn it back up but only up to the neck of the skimmer so i get a dry skim...............
