Just a quick question on vodka dosing as I have done a bit of research on this but would like an expert to help me out. First off this site is awesome. Secondly I would like to know exactly how powerful the skimmer has to be for vodka dosing to actually work ? Would a coralife super skimmer work with this technique or no ? Thanks for any information.

actually it's not trash it works well since day 1 i've pulled a ton of gunk out and I have a 55g tank the skimmer seems to be pulling out stuff daily and I have to clean it out in the morning when I get up was wondering if vodka dosing would work at all with this skimmer as I tried dosing a little and have not noticed a change in the color of the skim

If I could afford a better skimmer I would believe me but I can't :happysad:

A better indication if the vodka dosing is working is to measure Nitrates and Phosphates. You need to get a good baseline of these parameters prior to Vodka dosing and then monitor them closely during the dosing. As you get closer to your desired levels of these parameters, then you can cut back on the dosing and figure out what your maintenance dose is to keep the levels where you want them. A word of caution.....take it slow and don't expect results overnight. Only bad things happen quickly.

If your skimmer is working fine and pulling a decent amount then I wouldn't worry about the skimmer you should be fine ,I ve used vodka and it takes a bit of time to see results but you need to dose every day same routine..I switched to vinegar dosing now and see better results less cyano in the beigining than vodka ....in my opinion

look into vitamin c dosing its a lot safer than vodka very hard to overdose and does very well for your fish and zoos. Plain vitamin c tablets. Also a little tip is go to your dr and get a prescription you can get vitamin c and calcium through insurance I think it cost me 50 cents for 100 tablets lol

thanks for the replies based on the research I've done now I'm at day 5 I believe I am dosing .5 mL till Friday then switching to 1 mL till i see eventually a drop in nitrates to less than 20 then I'll probably go back to .5 mL cause last time I checked my nitrates they were at 50ish
