OK Guys and Girls!!!!

I really didn't want to post this.. Well I really did. Worst part is my wife keeps asking when I am getting a new tank. I was hoping for a little resistance from her :shhh:

I have 28 nano.

I want to go up to 75-90 gal.

I was looking at rimless, or rimmed with canopy. What are your thoughts.

LED's for lights. Either LED's or no new tank!

Skimmer Options? Octopus?

I already have a 75 gal that I will use in for sump/fuge.

Return pump? I will have probably 8-9 feet of head on the pump (sump will be in basment).

UV or not to UV?

Please chime in.

At this time I am researching. I may buy used, or new (some parts).

Thanks!!
Anthony

I would say that if you 90,you may as well go 100or125. The reason is that the 10-35 gallons will increase the types ofnfish you can house. I think min tanks for a powder blue, for example, is 100 gallons. I have a 40 breeder and am upgrading to a 125 myself. I will be picking up that tank next Saturday.

I would almost always go with used over brand new. The price difference is usually worth it and there is no shortage of for sale threads. If you are in the planning stages, I would jump on deals that you feel you'll need for your build.

Ya that is what I was thinking. But I want to try to get some cash together to be able to just buy it as I need it. Hmmmmmm 125????

Were you planning on using the sump in the stand? If so the 75 wouldn't work unless it's a custom stand or something.

Octopus or Bubble Magus would be great skimmers.

For a return pump I have heard great things about the Sicce Syncra line of pumps. I bought one and should have it soon. I will let you know how it goes.

Personally I love the rimless tanks. So much cleaner looking. Especially if you can hang the lights

Sump is going to be in basement so only the drain and return line will be going up to tank. That is why there will like like 8 feet of head. Under the tank wil be pretty empty. I was actualy thinking of doing a custom stand or just retro fitting and putting another smaller tank with hob overflow in the stand ;) all would be plumbed to the same sump :)

you know what, for the price, its REALLY worth it for a nice rimless! i currently have a 57 rimless and LOVE IT. perfect size for it. and since its only 3 foot, that ment cheaper fixtures and random filtration because its not 4 foot anymore.

we just went to ocean gallery II last weekend and brian gave my buddy an awesome deal, new 75 rimless and stand with carbon fiber print and double door, and piping with tax and all turned out for about $650 WELL WORTH IT. awesome set up.

no comment for LEDS. im no LED person. im all t5 with some led. i have on my 57 rimless a TEK Elite 6 bulb t5 with 36" reef brite strip and 3- 12" true lumen strips. absoluetly perfect light for me. i can do any coral i want, and the color is around a 20k look.

skimmer. well, depends on what size tank you do. i currently have a BM Nac 7. i love it, and im sure jerl will say the same lol. reef octopus are amazing skimmers as well. alot to pick from. to put it this way, most skimmers out there are pretty damn good now a days. BM, SWC, Reef Octopus, Skimz, Vertex In-Series, all are great skimmer brands. start looking into exactly which skimmer you like and we can help farther on...

return pump, i like the marineland euro pumps. much better then mag drives. mag drives get real hot. i highly reccomend marineland euro pumps. love them! and they are not that big.

UV...up to you. i dont run one, many do, its up to you...

good luck!

if you have a budget, you might as well stick with 4 foot tanks as well. 6 foot tank always means alot more money. larger light fixtures, skimmer, return pump, reactors, more LR, on and on....

and i agree, rimless has such a nice clean look to it. if i ever upgrade, its going to have to be rimless, because now after owning one, i dont think id go back to a standard set up

I really want to go with LED. I like the look of them and the power consumption and heat of the other lights. Also don't have to change the bulbs. I know that they are more expensive at first. But in the long run they WILL be cheaper.

I love it! You know my opinion.....and I have a skimmer perfectly waiting for ya

You have a ton of space for display tank and fish area below, rimless are very sharp looking. I think your more into the corals than the fish: but i agree with wonder that you should not limit yourself size wise. Someone here was selling a 110 or the 105i told you about from Dom. I thought i just read about someone removing the plastic rim and creating a rimless look, ur very handy could be another option. Or get the 75 deep blue! Lmk i love spending your money!

You are an ass!!! I was waiting for your reply.

I would never just take the rim off and hope that it holds. You "know" me. I will just get what I want in the long run.

Yes I have the room, but I don't want to spend the huge amounts on the upkeep. Right now doing a 7 gal water change takes total of 25 mins, including making the water.
