Tank Decisions...

...am about to get a 120/125G but am debating whether to get a 48-inch tank vs. a 72-inch tank. Short or deep, or long and narrow.

Like to hear everyone's opinion...

I had the same decision to make right now i've got a 120 a 48x24x24 down stairs. Reason i went with a 120 is because of its length. A 125 would need 3x halides. a nice 48" would only require me use 2. Plain and simple. get a 120.

i have the 125 and i like it. Gives the fish some room to swim.

I think it depends on the palce your putting it. I had a 55 in my apt but then when I bought my house I set up the tank and I had this nice big empty wall in the din room so I went w/ the 125. If you have the space I would do the 180 or slighty bigger then you get the best of both worlds. But if your limited I would so a 150. I saw one at pet smart this thing was awesome !!! I think it was 48x36x36 or something but thats just me.

I would go with the 125, everyone has 120 on MR. Plus, I have seen some amazing setups with a 125

Well if you are doing a reef tank ,better go for the depth ,Better to aquascape.
Long if you are doing a fish only tank ,so they have the room to swim

surprisingly yes.
if you must choose, go for the depth don, it will look more natural. you also need fewer light bulbs and you wont have to always bend down to your knees to see in the tank.
of course i would do both as i think you will end up regretting not going all the way now when you have the option.

you should know by now that women always like it long and deep.

i have a 187 and couldnt be happier with it, there is no one dimension i would want to change on it.
keep in mind that if you go for 36" deep, you will not be able to reach all the way into the tank and this may make certain aspects a lot more difficult. just something to consider. i was going to do mine 36" deep but was advised not too and today i am happy i took that advice. even 30" is difficult to work in (including my canopy). Also keep in mind that if you plan to have clams or other light loving corals on the floor of the tank, you will need a heck of a lot of light to penetrate so deep.

chicks dig it LONG don~! lolz n plus i think long tanks look alot bigger and wide tanks just look stubby -=) the longer the better just like slim thin tall chicks -=X lol but where are u goin to place it in the exsitin area? if it is u should mos def go with LONGER then wider 120~!
