yoooooooooo" my new t-5 8x54 watt retro...custom built system ..just leaked out black sticky tar stuff from all 4 ballest..does this mean their done with...i have not turned them back on since i noticed it...4-1000k and 4 blue atinic ...has this ever happend to anyone ..and what did you do???

Does not sound normal to me. I don't know what the insides of the ballasts are made of, but whatever they are made of, I'd be willing to bet, are supposed to STAY inside!

Could it be some kind of oil or epoxy?

Who makes the retro kit? Who built it? I would definitely be contacting the mfg.

I would not use them unless you are staying home while they're on AND staying very close to them......no three hour yard projects.

its tar thats what they use inside the ballast what make and model is it eletronic ballast dont have tar sealent inside, turn the bassast over and see date code

just read your post again tar leaked out of all four ballast something is realy wrong there a ballast usely leak after couple years after being left on with bad lamps then they get very hot and start to leak, for all four to leak at the same time then there eather bad ballast hard to belive all four or wrong size ballast for the lamps
