Coralife titanium ground phobes check!!!

hey all last week or so my tank just wasnt right, I lost my orange shoulder had a couple of frags which were growing bleach out.
today I noticed some rust in my ozone reactor.

This is what I found. make sure if you use this ground check it!!!

Damn, I guess all metals rust in saltwater. Frank did you see an improvement in the tank after removing the probe?

Rich, it all comes down to the purity and quality of the metal. I bet my a$$ that the titanium needlewheel on a Red Dragon will not corrode or rust. Thats why it costs so much. The same goes for stainless steel etc etc etc

You guys know you're not supposed to submerge the whole probe, right? just so the metal contacts the water. The seal between the metal and the plastic isn't that great. So water will seep up and hit the COPPER wire. THat's worse than rust in your water.

i think that probe might be just coated with titanium and not a solid rod

Under the right conditions, ALL METALLIC object will corrode. I think the best thing to do is to check all metal object in the tank in a scheduled time frame to monitor this sort of things.

But again, I have\had mag pumps, rios, SS heater, grounding probes, and many other metallic items in the tank\sump and can never relate the loss of corals or fishes to them corroding.

Just FYI, most large exteral pumps also have a matel shaft that are typically made from SS and can rust over time too.

It's not a solid rod, it was partially submerged but the suction cup lost it's suction.

my ORP rose significantly since it was removed monitoring closely next few days. water change palnned for tomorrow

I did not know this either. Mine has been submerged for two years now. I've got to go check it immediately. Especially since for no apparent reason I've lost my softball size pink birds nest and my baseball size pink birds nest. It's the only coral in this tank that is suffering from something and I can't figure out what.........yet.
