I tried to drill three holes in a 30 gallon tank that I wanted to use for my sump this weekend, what a disaster. Yes I used a special bit, but the glass would shear everytime it broke throught the back. Does anyone know a local (Northwest NJ) place that would sandblast a hole in glass?

They use a special compact drill press that
keeps the bit straight and also backs the glass
to keep from breaking it, plus a coolant well. A tricky job if you're not equpped, but some LFS will do it for you. I had one done at a shop in Coney Island. You can call around. Also make sure
the bottom is not tempered glass if you are drilling there. If so you can't drill it. I
had to go in the side on mine.

I called every glass shop within a half hour of my house but no one could drill a 1 7/8" (48mm) hole needed for a hayward sch. 80 bulkhead. So I ordered a bit from Salem Distributing, I just wish I had read this article before I started. How to use diamond drill bits. Maybe I'll just give it another try this weekend.
